Magnetic Ride Suspension

Magnetic Ride Suspension

Magnetic Ride Suspension is a type of Active Suspension system that actively controls the vertical movement of the wheels with respect to the vehicle's body.
It uses a kind of shock absorber, which also known as MR damper, in which the liquid contains a suspension of metal particles and the conventional fluid which on the application of magnetic field that turn on the signals provided by the sensors.

How is works ?

The piston have a number of channels through which the liquids flow in normal condition but whenever there is any sharp turn or any other kind of irregularity on the road surface which bring the role of suspension system in action, then sensors send the signals and the electromagnetic field is generated which aligns all the metal particles in horizontal direction which as a result creates difficulty for the piston to move and provides stiffness which results in better handling as well as control and contact with the surface improving the ride quality.

Advantages of Magnetic Ride Suspension:

  • It provides independent control at each arm
  • There are no moving parts
  • The body movement is significantly reduced
  • The response time of dampers are increased up to  100 times per second
  • It is active and fully adjustable

Disadvantages of Magnetic Ride Suspension:

  • It is very complex and hard to maintain
  • It is very expensive therefor it is generally incorporated in expensive cars.
